IBM Watson IoT Platform The IBM Watson IoT Platform provides the following services:
Ingest IoT data from any source by using Watson IoT Platform Service to register, connect, and control your IoT devices. Enable secure IoT data consumption and device control by using IoT Registration Service.
Capture your IoT data for the short-term in the Cloudant NoSQL DB solution, which gives you direct access to the last 30 days? worth of data for your devices. In the same way, use IBM® Event Streams for IBM Cloud for direct access to recent data.
Register consumers with with the devices with the embedded IoT Registration Service. For example, you can pair a washing machine with a manufacturer and an end user. Use the included IBM Cloud App ID and Single Sign On to simplify user access by using social login and policy-based authentication and IBM® Secure Gateway for IBM Cloud to safely connect the offering with your own asset management system.
Analyze data with Watson IoT Platform Analytics (add-on) and enable line of business users to easily enrich and interact with the raw metrics data coming from IoT entities by using built-in configurable analytics functions. One can also leverage the built-in data analytics features in Db2® Warehouse on Cloud to gain insights into your historical IoT data, use the real-time Watson IoT Platform Service analytics feature to analyze the data as if flows in, use the starter Node-RED samples to set up your own custom alerts, or build your own app solutions for alerts by leveraging the available REST APIs.
Archive and scale the storage options and simplify data management by using the included long-term storage solution, IBM® Cloud Object Storage.
Manage data with the Watson IoT Platform SaaS solution, with full status and connection through the Watson IoT Platform dashboard. Access your services at the user level with system level security.
Monitor usage with the Watson IoT Platform dashboard of data consumption and usage for each included service in your account to correctly size your solution needs and avoid overages. Your subscription in the form of capacity units easily breaks down into the following components: number of devices, data consumption, and data processing. Use the Detailed usage reports to gain insight about usage variations over time. Work with the IBM IoT Solutions DevOps team to tailor the solution to suit your organizational needs.
The Watson IoT Platform solution can be expanded by using add-ons:
Watson IoT Platform on Blockchain (add-on)
Was it clear so far?
IBM® Watson? IoT Platform on Blockchain is an add-on component of Watson IoT Platform that enables your IoT resources to participate in blockchain business networks.
Watson IoT Platform Analytics (add-on)
Watson IoT Platform Analytics is an extension and an add-on component to IBM® Watson? IoT Platform. Watson IoT Platform Analytics enables line of business users to easily enrich and interact with the raw metrics data coming from IoT entities by using built-in configurable analytics functions.
Depending on your organization?s needs, one can subscribe to the following entity groups:
Sensor entities The sensor type device typically has a very low data frequency, with just a few data points per hour or day. Examples include thermostats, badge readers, and parking meters.
Consumer entities The consumer class electronics and appliances generally cost less and have relatively low data flow and storage requirements per unit. The number of units at this end of the scale tend to be high. Examples include consumer electronics and appliances.
Enterprise entities With enterprise electronics and equipment, we are now entering the field of medium cost, data flow and storage requirements per unit. Examples include office products and computers, medical devices, network equipment, and drones.
Industrial entities At the industrial end of the scale, the cost is now very high. Here, the number of units is small, but the data flow and storage requirements per unit can be very high. Examples include industrial products and equipment, trains and ships, and farming gear.
